Who is Ali Rıza Babaoğlan?

I was born in August of mid-80′s...

Having completed my secondary education at Yusuf Kalkavan Anatolian High School in Mersin, I ranked 2800th out of 1.3 Million Students in the university entrance examination in 2004 and gained a full university scholarship to Computer Engineering Department at Başkent University.

While studying at the university, I volunteered to work at some technology companies to improve myself. After my second year at university, I began to write articles about programming technologies and the future of Internet technologies for different technology magazines such as BYTE, PC World, PC Net, and PC MAGAZINE.

In June of 2007, i completed my summer-term internship at Microsoft Turkey, and I started my part-time job as a Microsoft Student Partner (MSP) in September of 2007. At the end of this year-long experience, I was awarded as the “Best Student Partner” by Microsoft.

Following this success, I became a member of the software development team affiliated with Microsoft USA for a period of six months and worked for the product development of OneNote 2007 which is included in the Microsoft Office 2007 product family.

Upon graduation from the university in 2008, I was one of the Best 75 students of EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) chosen by IBM. As a result of this success, I was invited to IBM Research Laboratory in Zurich, Switzerland and attended the innovation education program in July of 2008.

In 2008, i was selected as one of four members of Turkey’s First National Information Technology team by the Ministry of National Education of Turkey and officially represented my country in the field of information and communication technologies in the European Skills Olympics which Turkey attended for the first time.

Thus, I had the honor to officially represent my country in the field of technology in Europe. This event was named EuroSkills 2008 held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. After that, I returned to Turkey and began working for the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.

During and after my university years, i shared my experiences in many events, such as Academical Informatics’08, Academical Informatics’09, Informatics’07, Informatics’08, XII. Internet in Turkey Conference, XIII. Internet in Turkey Conference and XIV. Internet in Turkey Conferences as an invited speaker. Also, I gave talks on “The Future of Internet Technologies” in various cities.

Since 2007, I have given more then thirty seminars both in Turkey and abroad to an audience of more than three thousand. I felt very honored to be mentioned in Mr. Melih ARAT’s column entitled Extraordinarily Successful Youth in which he wrote about my study that I carried out at that time.

While I was working for the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey, I created a new project called Marro.ws that foresees the future of the internet. Due to Marro.ws’ success, I participated in several television and radio programs as an invited speaker. I received press coverage in one of the newspapers published in Italy. Please see TRT NewsKanal B

Thanks to the success of Marro.ws project, i was invited as a speaker to NEXT Conference regarded as one of the largest events in the world about the internet. The event was held in Hamburg in May of 2009. I had the chance to be the first Turkish invited speaker of this event, and I spoke more than 1500 participants including the founders of Facebook, Amazon, Ebay, Sevenload and Xing. I presented about my projects and opinions on the future of the internet.

After this event, I was invited as a speaker to different conferences in Matera, Italy and Baku, Azerbaijan and attend.

In addition, I was invited to give talks by students in Career Day events of Bilgi University, Hacettepe University, Çukurova University, Yıldız Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, Bilkent University, Istanbul University, Dicle University and Atılım University in Turkey.

The Marro.ws project was included to the Ursinus University’s syllabus in the USA and taught for two semester in internet-related courses.

After that success, I got a job offer and joined IBM Turkey team as an Account Manager of Public Sector Accounts.

In December of 2009, I won the JCI’s Ten Outstanding People of World (TOYP) Individual Achievement Category Award. I received my honour prize in the event organized from İş Bank. Since Dec’09, i am listed in Wikipedia’s The Outstanding Young Persons of the World list. (I also attended a TV program about this)

I was interviewed about my projects in 2008, and this interview was included in the book called “Successful Young People” which was published in 2011 in Turkey. (In Turkish)

In 2009, I was chosen as the “Entrepreneur of the Year” in a poll conducted on popular Internet blog Webrazzi in Turkey. Visit: Webrazzi

Then, my projects were featured in the June 2010 issue of Planet Young, which is a business magazine for young people. I was on the cover of that issue for the first time.

In paralel, i succeed %211 growth in Public Sector Accounts of IBM Turkey, and i decided to join the SAP AG Turkey team as a Public Sector Key Accounts Manager which is a Germany-based world software leader in enterprise software market.

After my first year in SAP, we succeed %373 YoY revenue growth in Public Sector accounts.

On my second year, i managed the SAPSybase co-operation in Turkey after SAP acquired Sybase.

On that time frame i was the sales leader of the biggest educational transformation project of world (Fatih Project in Turkey) on behalf of SAP AG global.

I managed relations with localglobal partners and with Turkish government including MoE, MoF, Prime Ministry and Turkish Presidency, Tübitak and Türksat.

I also attended Turkish President’s Silicon Valley trip to visit Apple, Twitter, Facebook and Google HQ’s in USA.

After that really exciting experiences for more then two years in SAP AG, i move forward by joining internet sector with Linkedin EMEA team. Since September 2012, i am working as a Territory Manager of Turkey and based in Dublin, Ireland.

I was also worked as a volunteer for UN when i was a student and i been in Italy and Kenya for Youth in Action Programme to reach 2015 Millennium Development Goals in 2008 and 2009.

I have advanced-level English and intermediate-level German language skills.

My hobbies are doing research & reading about Turkish political history and playing basketball. I like visiting countries influenced by different cultures and watching Turkish films. Recently, I took up climbing, snowboard and photography.
